The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee confirmed on Monday that it is backing U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz's campaign next year.

"We are supporting Sen. Schatz," a DSCC official said, speaking on background.

The Washington Post's Post Politics blog reported Friday that the DSCC had not said whether it would back Schatz in a hypothetical primary against U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, although U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., the DSCC chairman, and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, have financially supported Schatz's campaign.

The Star-Advertiser had reported earlier this month that the DSCC would be supporting Schatz.

Schatz, meanwhile, has picked up endorsements from the Council for a Livable World, Ocean Champions, and the National Weather Service Employees Organization.

[...] Hawaii: The DSCC is less afraid to pick favorites in primaries than its counterpart in the Republican Party. The Honolulu Star Advertiser has confirmed what we heard weeks ago, that the DSCC plans to support appointed Senator Brian Schatz in a Democratic primary. In other words, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa will have to think a little harder if she wants to try to primary Schatz (or should look a little harder at Governor). [...]
