Oahu Democrats will elect a new chairman at their convention on Saturday to replace Tony Gill, who stepped down to work on a lawsuit challenging the state's open primary system.

The contenders?

*Francis Choe, the interim Oahu chairman, who is active with the Young Democrats of Hawaii.

*Joshua Wisch, who works at the state Department of Taxation and is a former aide to U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono when Hirono was in the U.S. House.

*Former state Sen. Pohai Ryan, who lost re-election in the primary for a Windward state Senate seat last year.

*Update: Wisch was elected the chairman.
