Hawaii U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is looking to fill two top staff positions.
Amy Asselbaye, her Hawaii-based chief of staff who previously served as longtime aide to Gov. Neil Abercrombie in Congress and at the state Capitol, is leaving to devote more time to work at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Center. Asselbaye left the Abercrombie administration at the end of his first year in office to spend more time with family. (Asselbaye also co-opened a coffee shop in Hawaii Kai with her husband and another couple last year.)
Said Gabbard, in a statement issued through an aide:
“With my chief of staff returning to her job at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, I decided to move my chief of staff position to the D.C. office to handle the day-to-day office operations while Congress is in session."
Gabbard also is looking to replace her deputy chief of staff, Jennifer Goedke, who left her position earlier this month. No reason for her departure was given.
"I am also hiring an experienced District Director who is dedicated to meeting the needs of constituents across Hawaii. This structure will continue to provide the people of Hawai'i with the best possible service."
No replacements have been named.
