Senate HWN

July 26th, 2013

Sen. Malama Solomon has volunteered to resign from the Senate Hawaiian Affairs Committee, reducing the committee's membership to five, in keeping with Senate tradition.

The change, effective immediately, was announced Friday in a memo from Senate President Donna Mercado Kim:

"In keeping with the practice of having an odd-numbered committee membership, Senator Solomon has volunteered to step-off that committee."

No further details were given. A telephone message left Friday afternoon with Solomon's office was not immediately returned.

Sen. Maile Shimabukuro will serve as chairwoman of Hawaiian affairs with Sen. Clayton Hee as vice chairman. Also on the committee are Sens. Brickwood Galuteria, Michelle Kidani and Sam Slom.

Earlier this month, Solomon was one of two members added to the Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee. The composition of the committee had been an issue during the debate over civil unions in 2009. Senate leaders had placed an even six members on Judiciary and the committee eventually became deadlocked.

Why can't all the Senators resign from their position PERIOD!!!!

Seems one should find a way to impeach them
rather than have them resign. Fire them without
    having them recieve benefits.
