State Rep. Rida Cabanilla on Monday was named the new House majority floor leader.
Cabanilla replaces Rep. Karen Awana, who resigned the post on Friday amid reports that she is facing another fine for campaign-finance violations.
Cabanilla will relinquish her chairwomanship of the House Housing Committee.
The floor leader has the responsibility of reading the majority's votes on the floor.
“I have long respected Rep. Cabanilla as a colleague and I appreciate that she has accepted the responsibilities of majority floor leader," House Speaker Joseph Souki said in a statement. "I believe that she will continue to work for the people of her district and the state and remain a positive force here in the Legislature."
