New York, New York
Gov. Neil Abercrombie has a fundraiser for his re-election campaign on Friday in New York City.
The governor announced on Tuesday that he was going to Washington, D.C., to discuss the potential impact of the partial government shutdown on Hawaii.
Louise Kim McCoy, Abercrombie's spokeswoman, said at the time that the governor had a previously scheduled personal trip to the East Coast that would include the stop in the capital.
The fundraiser notice -- a $1,000 per person, 12:30 p.m. event on Broadway -- was posted on Thursday. Abercrombie's last fundraiser was his birthday bash in late June. He had brought in $3.3 million for his re-election campaign through June.
State Sen. David Ige is challenging Abercrombie in the Democratic primary.
*Update: Since a few readers inquired, Abercrombie's trip was -- as reported above -- personal. Taxpayers are not paying for the trip, according to the governor's staff.

What a political farce or play by ABERCRUMMY saying he is going to Washington, D.C. to discuss the potential impact of the partial government shutdown in Hawaii where all along he was going to his fundraiser in NYC....going to Washington was just a political op on his part to get publicity to show that he is trying to do something on the shutdown in Hawaii....THAT'S A BUNCH OF POLITICAL B.S.....nothing more and nothing less.

@hossana, you got it mostly right. But the real reason for the photo op in DC is so he can stick the taxpayers with his airline bill to get to his campaign fundraiser in NYC. If he were only doing the fundraiser, and not this bogus DC meeting, his campaign would be required to pick up the tab for his trip to the East Coast. Lets see if anyone in the media has the guts to ask to see his airfare receipts and the details about these "high level" meetings in DC.

If the Star-Advertiser had any investigative reporters, they could tell us whether Abercrombie paid for this trip out of his own pocket or whether Hawaii taxpayers footed the bill for his fundraising travels.

Guess he can do both, but it is a good question who paid for his travel. If tax-payers, boo. If not tax-payers, ok I guess.

Sounds like a play taken from Hannemann's playbook. We want our money back, Gov. Abercrombie - with interest.
