The United Food and Commercial Workers Union has endorsed Gov. Neil Abercrombie for re-election.

The union represents grocery, retail, food processing and meatpacking workers.

“We’re proud to support Governor Abercrombie,” Pat Loo, the president of UFCW Local 480, said in a statement. “Thanks to his leadership, our state has turned the corner. Hawaii’s economy is doing much better now than when he took office, and our members recognize that achievement. We look forward to working together to build an even brighter future for generations to come.”

Abercrombie is up against state Sen. David Ige in the Democratic primary.
