Still fighting

State Rep. Bob McDermott, who has fought the state's gay marriage law in state court, said Wednesday that he is disappointed that the state Attorney General has dropped his legal defense of the old marriage law in a federal lawsuit.

The Ewa Beach Republican said that as long as his case is pending on appeal, the gay marriage law should not be presumed to be valid.

From McDermott:

This denial of our right to be represented by our Attorney General is outrageous. He is essentially, imposing his own personal view favoring same sex marriage against his role as the Attorney General of the State of Hawaii. Who does he think he works for? Again, the State of Hawaii, WON at the Federal District Court upholding Hawaii’s previous Marriage Law limiting marriage to one man and one woman and the homosexual plaintiffs are seeking an appeal at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. The 9th Circuit is withholding any action, UNTIL, our case is decided finally. They know our case is the lynchpin for their case.

The Defense of Marriage Act is now a two way street....
Can be interpreted as to defend same sex marriage or
marriage of man and woman....See the wording can be
    different from right to left...

  2. Johnson:

    Give it up Bob.

What an idiot. He claims that Hawaii won in federal district upholding Hawaii's ban on same sex marriage. This is true. But this ruling was BEFORE the US Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Since the June 2013 DOMA decision, ALL and I mean ALL federal court cases have ruled in favor of marriage equality and against state bans on same-sex marriage. Our victories are so numerous that I have lost count of how many cases we have won. Bob is either just plain stupid or simply manipulating this for all the media attention it is worth.

Stop wasting state resources Rep. McDermott.

  5. Common Sense:

Thankfully Bob is not afraid of the intolerant, and closed minded Gay extremists who have injected millions of dollars into political and Corporate coffers to try to manipulate the masses that a Gay lifestyle is normal. No matter how much any oligarchical minority can ever manipulate human laws they could never change the basic laws of science (think HIV) and nature (Reproductive system). At least Nintendo and sensible countries in the world won't be deceived by gay threats and propaganda. Christian Haters can whine all they want about the truth but they are the one allowing more harm to Gays by letting them live a dangerous life that is at a high risk of suicide, gay domestic violence (Think guy without a head found at the Mililani Cemetery)and STD. The AG is breaking the law by not doing his job.

@ Common Sense: Funny that courts all over the country, including the US Supreme Court don't seem to agree with you. Either we gays have so much power that we are pulling the strings of every politician and judge in the country.....or perhaps, you're just plain crazy and don't understand both the Hawaii State Constitution as well as the US Constitution. Both require equal protection under the law.

Egad- is it any wonder "Common Sense" doesn't use his or her real name.

Must be related to two cents...
