In flight

May 9th, 2014

The Association of Flight Attendants has endorsed U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

The AFA represents workers at Hawaiian Airlines and other airlines.

“Senator Brian Schatz has been a true champion for flight attendants and working families since day one,” Darren Shiroma, the executive assistant to the International President of the AFA, said in a statement. “He has worked to protect Open Skies Agreement safeguards between the European Union and U.S. and advocated policies like paid family and medical leave. With his post as chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Competitiveness, and Innovation, Senator Schatz will be well positioned to continue to advocate for the interests of our members and of Hawaii in the years to come.”

The AFA's parent union is the Communications Workers of America. In April, Schatz won the endorsement of CWA's District 9, which represents communications workers in California, Hawaii and Nevada.

Schatz is facing U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa in the primary.
