For the wonks among us, here is a breakdown of the vetoes issued by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat, during his first term and former Gov. Linda Lingle, a Republican, through her first and second terms:

Abercrombie

2014: 7* vetoes/0 overrides
2013: 4 vetoes/0 overrides
2012: 14 vetoes/0 overrides
2011: 17 vetoes/0 overrides

*Does not include line-item veto in the state budget to help correct a bond declaration error.

Lingle

2010: 47 vetoes/11 overrides
2009: 57 vetoes/38 overrides
2008: 53* vetoes/17 overrides
2007: 42 vetoes/19 overrides
2006: 32 vetoes/0 overrides
2005: 28 vetoes/12 overrides
2004: 38 vetoes/7 overrides
2003: 50 vetoes/6 overrides

*Does not include five line-item vetoes, and one line-item veto override, in bills that otherwise became law.

Prior to Lingle, the Democratic-controlled state Legislature had only overridden one governor’s veto since statehood, Gov. Ben Cayetano’s rejection of an age of consent bill in 2001.

What is your source? The Book Book?

  3. Especially Incognito:

    "Dwarves"? Dwarfs is plural.

Dwarves is an American punk band formed in Chicago, Illinois.
Seems your source is in need of a review.

What were the issues? Any money involved in the signing of the bill? Who was actually backing them up? Linda Lingle's Maui myth is just that, a myth. If you visit other places, I'd say space needle in Seattle is just as exciting. What exactly did the public see in Linda Lingle or Neal Abercrombie? Who is David Ige? I say it's for formalities, more people will vote for the public's side of it. Who's throwing the most parties will win the race. Sounds like this is the case to me. It's hard to see from an outsiders standpoint. I don't know anyone from Washington for example. We're buying all the school supplies from there, a lumber and timber industry. Who do you know there? Discounts! There is an abundance of paper and lumber, discounts.

Shows that the winner also spends the most.
