New attorney

December 30th, 2014

Blake Oshiro, who served three years as deputy chief of staff under former Gov. Neil Abercrombie, is returning to private practice, joining the law firm of Alston Hunt Floyd and Ing as director of counsel.

Oshiro, a former state representative, joins the firm's government relations team.

In a news release, Oshiro said:

“I look forward to using my experience and networks in the state government, coupled with my knowledge of the law, to help clients develop strategies that work consistent with state policies so that in collaboration with policy decision-makers, we move forward as a community.”

Oshiro’s areas of practice also include commercial litigation, employment law, government contracts, entity formation and governance and environmental law, the firm said.

A good catch for his old firm and their clients, even if the State Ethics Code limits for the next year what he can do directly on the clients' behalf at the Capitol.

  2. Kolea:

AHFI is one of the best politically connected law firms in town. But their ties were stronger with the Abercrombie group than with the new administration. Blake Oshiro is well-liked in the Legislature and knows its rhythms and personalities very well. So clients of AHFI will benefit.

Whether this is a good thing or not depends, I guess, upon who those clients are.

To BJ: Thanks for pushing on with this blog. I have best wishes for it, and for you, going into the New Year. Seasons greetings!

  3. Manoa Kahuna:

All good wishes to BJ Reyes in the New Year and in your new Political Radar blog beat. It's an important assignment.

Smart players of the Hawaii political game watch this space closely. So, I guess, you're going to have an onslaught off new BFF's.

Oh well, every job has is downsides. Good luck.

BJ Reyes has been posting along with Derrick DePledge for awhile now in Political Radar - nice to see you continue, BJ.

I'm always leery of politicians who go back to Gov't-connected jobs, but guess we'll see how it works out.

  5. Manoa Kahuna:

Ah ha. The first nominee for BFF makes his appearance.

  6. Chicken Grease:

Good luck to Mr. Blake Oshiro . . .

Ah, yes . . . not knowing when the next Political Radar blog entry will be, a Grease joins these fine people of the blog to give a hats off to Mr. B.J. Reyes and Mr. Derrick DePledge. Thank you for providing us some fine news, despite our (well, I lie; THE OTHERS') bloviating.

MERRY CHRISTMAS (it's STILL Christmas; anyone who says "pass already!" doesn't seem to be attending Mass) and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all ya'll!!!!
